Prepare for a CIDP evaluation
Progressive or relapsing weakness and numbness over more than 8 weeks is often misdiagnosed as diabetic neuropathy or 'idiopathic'. Medvo helps document progression and request electrodiagnostic studies.
Symptoms patients describe
- · Symmetric weakness in legs > arms, difficulty walking or climbing stairs
- · Numbness, tingling, loss of balance, areflexia
- · Can have relapsing-remitting course or steady progression
Tests & referrals to request
Framed as evaluation — your clinician decides what is appropriate.
- · Nerve conduction studies/EMG showing demyelination (not just axonal loss)
- · Lumbar puncture (elevated protein), possibly nerve biopsy or ultrasound
- · Referral to neuromuscular neurologist for IVIG, plasmapheresis, or steroids
If you've been dismissed
- · Blamed on diabetes or 'just aging' with no EMG/NCS
- · No treatment offered until severe disability
